Natural Weight Loss Begins Within
Natural weight loss could be defined as weight loss that occurs without
excessive strain or struggle - in other words, balancing the body from within so that it returns to its natural
state of health and wellness.
Unfortunately, modern society has become obsessed with "unnatural" weight loss -
which usually means severe calorie restriction, extreme workouts, and medication or supplements that may do more
harm than good in the long run.
Is there an easier, gentler way to lose weight? Is there such a thing as
"natural weight loss"?
Absolutely! Believe it or not, your body already has all the wisdom it
needs to return to a balanced, healthy state - if you are willing to listen to it. Instead, most of us think
and analyze what needs to be done to lose weight, then force rigid rules and restrictions upon our body, which only
moves us farther and farther away from our body's inner wisdom.
If this describes your weight loss experiences thus far, don't despair.
Learning to tune in and listen to your body can be done in three simple steps:
1) Getting Quiet
The first step is to quiet your thoughts and minimize outer distractions so you
can begin reconnecting with your inner wisdom. Your inner wisdom is subtle enough so that you must create a
peaceful, harmonious forum to allow it to speak.
Find a quiet place where you can be alone and begin relaxing your body and
letting go of chaotic thoughts. Breathe slowly and deeply and allow a sense of peacefulness to flow over
you.
2) Asking Questions
Once you are fully relaxed, bring your attention to the center of your abdomen,
approximately at the location of your belly button. Imagine that in this spot you can feel a warm, loving
intelligence waiting patiently for you to consult it. Take as long as you need to begin feeling this loving
presence, and when you feel like you are connected, begin asking questions related to your body and
well-being.
You might ask question like these to start: "How did my body get out of
balance? What can I do to begin bringing it back into balance? Should I avoid certain foods?
Which foods are good for me?"
3) Listening for Answers
Ask one question at a time and then wait silently for the answer. You may
receive answers in the form of words, mental images, feelings, hunches, or even experience an "instant knowing"
that just pops into your head. Write these insights down and explore them more fully later.
This initial exercise will get the ball rolling - but you also want to get into
the habit of consulting your inner wisdom on a regular basis.
Rather than mindlessly eating, pause and ask your inner wisdom whether the food
you are about to eat is the best choice for you. After you eat, pay close attention to how your body
feels. Did a particular food disagree with you? Did a particular food make you feel energized and
happy?
Likewise, ask similar questions about your exercise habits. Are you moving
enough? Do you need to try different physical activities to keep from feeling bored? Which exercises
would be best for you? Which areas of your body most need to be strengthened?
Allow your inner guidance to lead you to the best choices for YOUR body, rather
than blindly trying the latest fad diet, pill, shake, or supplement that comes along. This is natural weight
loss at its best!
